Duration Recording

Duration Recording is an ABA timing tool for practitioners and assigned recorders monitoring a target behavior where persistence over time matters. It helps record start and stop times for behavior episodes, derive duration values, and review total or episode-level timing across observation periods.

Learn more about this tool

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

When It Fits

Use it when start and end points can be defined clearly enough to time behavior episodes.

Incomplete Timing

An active episode at session end must be stopped, discarded, or marked incomplete instead of silently becoming a final duration.

Limits

The tool measures time and does not determine causes, treatment effectiveness, or intervention recommendations by itself.

Can the tool record more than one episode?

Yes. It supports multiple behavior episodes within an observation period.

What happens if an episode is still running?

The session cannot silently finalize it; the active episode must be stopped, discarded, or marked incomplete.

Does this tool explain why duration changed?

No. It reports recorded and derived duration values without causal explanation.

What is saved from the public demo?

The tool and selected reusable duration focus are saved; sample timing data is not saved as real client data.
