Protector Map

Protector Map is a collaborative IFS tool for practitioners and clients when protective responses are prominent. It helps them differentiate protective parts or responses, describe roles or functions, name fears or concerns where supported, and understand how protectors affect current functioning and treatment pace.

Learn more about this tool

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

What It Captures

The profile captures protector description, role/function, what the protector is trying to prevent, how it operates, effects on current functioning, and pace implications.

Client Language

The client can use preferred descriptions, correct practitioner framing, reject a role description, or leave concerns unresolved.

Relevant Limitations

The tool does not infer hidden fears, require formal labels, score readiness, diagnose, or prescribe treatment steps.

Is this the same as a full parts map?

No. Protector Map is focused on protective parts or responses, not the client's entire internal system.

Do all protectors need formal categories?

No. The tool allows client-preferred descriptions and does not require mandatory categories for every protector.

Can unknown concerns remain blank?

Yes. Unknown role, fear, or function can remain unresolved and visible.

What saves from the demo?

The tool and selected settings are saved; fictional protector profiles and sample notes are not saved as real client data.
