Part Externalization

Part Externalization is a collaborative IFS tool for practitioners and clients, especially child clients, when an inner part is hard to talk about directly or feels too fused with the whole self. It helps them create or capture an observable representation, describe relevant attributes, and keep the representation separate from practitioner interpretation.

Representation Modes

The tool supports captured object/image, drawing, digital arrangement, or text-only description as ways to make a part observable.

Child-Oriented Use

For children, the interaction should be concrete, low in reading demand, and able to pause without forcing completion.

Relevant Limitations

The tool does not analyze symbols, diagnose, score, require a full parts map, or infer meaning from drawings or objects.

Does the system interpret the drawing or object?

No. The system does not perform symbolic analysis or infer meaning from the representation.

Can the activity be text-only?

Yes. Text-only description is a supported representation mode when no visual capture is available or preferred.

Can a child revise the representation later?

Yes. The workflow supports replacing or revising the representation, with revision history when enabled.

What saves from the demo?

The tool and selected settings are saved; fictional representations, sample media, labels, attributes, and notes are not saved as real client data.
