Child Trauma Screen (CTS)

Child Trauma Screen (CTS) is a brief child and adolescent trauma screening tool for child-serving practitioners. It helps clinicians, intake staff, child welfare workers, school personnel, and other providers capture child or caregiver responses about trauma exposure and PTSD-related reactions so they can decide whether fuller assessment, referral, or additional support may be warranted.

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

When It Is Used

CTS is used in child-serving settings when a practitioner needs a brief trauma exposure and PTSD-related reaction risk signal before deciding whether fuller trauma-focused assessment, treatment referral, or additional support is warranted.

What It Captures

The tool captures child or caregiver responses to trauma exposure and PTSD symptom items, then displays exposure signal, reaction/PTSD symptom score, respondent/source, completion status, and cutoff/referral status.

Important Limits

CTS is a screening tool. It does not produce a diagnosis, full trauma assessment, treatment plan, trauma narrative, or unsupported severity label.

Is the Child Trauma Screen a diagnostic assessment?

No. The CTS is a brief trauma exposure and PTSD symptom screen that supports triage toward fuller assessment, referral, or additional support when indicated.

Can both child and caregiver responses be represented?

Yes. The product supports child/adolescent and caregiver report forms where appropriate, and results keep respondent/source visible rather than merging sources automatically.

What happens if items are missing?

Missing required responses produce an incomplete state. Incomplete screens are not presented as final threshold determinations unless CTS scoring rules support scoring with missing items.

What is saved from the public demo?

The CTS tool and selected reusable setup are saved. Fictional responses, sample scores, and temporary demo notes are not saved as real client data.
