Map a Three-Person Reactivity Pattern

Triangle Map is a shared Bowen family systems tool for practitioners and clients. It helps them identify a recurring three-person relationship pattern, describe roles, triggers, and reactive sequence, and locate where the client may shift their own functioning.

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

Exactly Three Participants

Each Triangle Map represents one three-person unit. More complex cases use separate linked maps rather than expanding one map into a generic network.

No Blame Assignment

The tool describes roles, triggers, and sequences as entered. It does not infer responsibility or prescribe a response.

Can a triangle include more than three people?

No. One map has exactly three primary participants; additional people require separate triangle maps.

Does the tool provide role categories?

No. Role or position notes are practitioner/client-authored because fixed role categories are not supplied in the specification.

Can a map be saved without a shift point?

Yes. It can be marked incomplete if the shift point is not yet clear.

What saves into my account?

The Triangle Map tool is saved. Fictional demo participants and sequence details do not become real client data.
