Self-Soothing Task for Self-Directed Compassionate Responding

Self-Soothing Task is a live-session EFT tool for practitioners working with emotionally distressed clients who lack access to a compassionate, protective, validating, or calming response toward themselves. It helps capture the distressed part's need, the client's own soothing response, emotional credibility, and any shift in distress, self-contact, or capacity to stay with emotion.

Client Language Comes First

The tool captures the client's own soothing response rather than inserting canned compassionate statements.

Intellectual-Only Responses Are Visible

A response can be recorded as not yet emotionally credible so the practitioner can continue refining it.

Does this tool include soothing scripts?

No. Required scripts are outside the specified behavior; the client's own response is central.

Does distress have to reduce for the task to be useful?

No. The review can also record increased self-contact or greater capacity to stay with emotion, and partial states remain valid.

Can multiple needs be recorded?

Yes. More than one need-response pair can be captured if they emerge in the same task.
