Mode Dialogues / Chairwork session support

Mode Dialogues / Chairwork is a live-session schema therapy support tool for therapists guiding clients through embodied dialogue between modes or parts. It helps the practitioner assign modes to chairs, track active positions, capture brief notes, and review mode needs, beliefs, and Healthy Adult responses.

Tool guide

Learn more about this tool

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

Spatial work stays central

The demo should keep chairs and movement visible as the organizing structure rather than converting the exercise into a flat form.

Flexible mode labels

The tool does not require a fixed mode taxonomy. Practitioners can label chairs for the modes or parts relevant to the session.

Partial dialogue records

If the session stops early or integration does not emerge, the review shows what was captured so far without implying completion.

Does the tool diagnose modes automatically?

No. Mode labels and interpretations are practitioner-entered; the system only organizes the chair map and sequence.

Can chair labels change during a session?

Yes. Earlier notes retain the label used at the time, and later notes use the updated label.

Is there a client worksheet?

No. The client participates through live movement and speech; a shared view can show only the chair map.

What if the client cannot move physically?

The record can still support symbolic position switching while preserving the chair map.
