Gottman-Rapoport Intervention for Live Couples Dialogue

Gottman-Rapoport Intervention is a live-session couples-therapy dialogue tool for practitioners. It helps therapists structure a two-partner disagreement conversation, capture each partner's perspective, and record observed barriers to understanding such as defensiveness, invalidation, or misunderstanding.

Learn more about this tool

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

Live Session Use

This tool is designed for practitioner-controlled use during a couples session. It is not a standalone client questionnaire.

Partial States

If one partner cannot participate or the conversation needs to pause, the result remains partial and shows which perspective or listening opportunity is missing.

Result Boundaries

The review stays descriptive. It does not decide who is right, assign blame, diagnose the relationship, or score the conflict.

Does this tool score the couple's conflict?

No. The tool organizes perspectives and practitioner observations but does not produce conflict scores, blame assignments, or diagnostic conclusions.

Can partners use it on their own?

The primary experience is live and practitioner-facilitated. A minimal shared view can support in-session participation, but the practitioner controls the intervention state.

What is saved after the demo?

The tool itself and intentional setup are saved. Fictional demo dialogue, sample observations, and temporary case content are not saved as real client data by default.

What happens if only one partner contributes?

The result is marked partial and shows which perspective or listening opportunity is incomplete.
