Duration Recording Form

Duration Recording Form is a direct-observation FBA and behavior-monitoring timing form for practitioners and classroom observers. It helps the behavior-monitoring team record start and end times for a defined target behavior, calculate episode durations, and summarize total time during a defined observation period.

Tool guide

Learn more about this tool

Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

When It Is Used

Use it when behavior episodes vary in length or when duration is more useful than frequency alone for baseline, monitoring, or review.

What It Captures

The form captures observation setup, episode start times, episode end times, calculated durations, and completion or partial status.

Limits

The tool calculates and summarizes duration. It does not infer behavior function, explain cause, recommend interventions, or replace practitioner interpretation.

Does the student or client complete this form?

No. The observed student or client does not enter information; the practitioner or observer records timing data during observation.

Can I use manual times instead of a live timer?

Yes. The product supports manual clock entry and timer-style capture because the timing record is based on start and end times.

What happens if an episode has no end time?

An incomplete episode is not included in finalized totals until the missing time is resolved.

Does the result say whether an intervention worked?

No. The result shows descriptive duration change over comparable observations; practitioner interpretation of intervention impact remains separate.
