Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

Problem-linked duration

Each duration indication attaches to one identified problem. The tool should not record duration without a focal problem.

Unknown and incomplete states

When duration is uncertain, the practitioner can leave it unknown or incomplete rather than forcing a value.

History without overreach

Prior duration indicators can remain visible for review, but the system does not infer prognosis or recurrence rules.

Does the Duration Index predict whether a problem will persist?

No. It represents temporal status and does not infer prognosis.

Can the tool classify a problem as acute, chronic, or recurring?

Only if those categories are supplied by the underlying index. The demo must not invent categories or thresholds.

Can duration be recorded without a focal problem?

No. The duration indicator must attach to an identified problem.

What happens if duration is unknown?

The practitioner can mark duration as unknown or incomplete so the case formulation does not imply a value.
