Use this background section to understand when the tool fits, how practitioners use it, and what to consider before sharing it with clients.

Minimal by Design

The tool is intentionally low-friction because affect focus occurs in live therapeutic conversation. It supports short notes, not questionnaires.

No Required Artifact

A practitioner can use the technique without saving a final artifact. Saved notes are descriptive session context only.

Is Affect Focus an emotion rating tool?

No. It does not include emotion intensity scores, standardized categories, or affect trends.

Does the client fill anything out?

No. The client participates in live therapeutic conversation, but there is no client form or required direct entry.

Can the affect be unclear?

Yes. The practitioner can record that the affect is unclear or being clarified rather than forcing a label.
